Today we listened to a book on tape. It was called The Wild Toboggan Ride by Suzan Reid. Nicki wanted one more ride down the hill. Her grandfather stepped on his scarf while pushing the toboggan and landed on the sled. They kept running into people and more people landed on the toboggan. At the end they wanted to do it again.
We listen to books on tape so we can improve our fluency. We listen to how other people read and try to read like them.

In math we’ve been learning about graphs. We know how to make a line plot, a tally chart, a bar graph, and a Venn Diagram. We make observations about the data we collect. This week we will learn about pictographs.

Parents came in to help us plant beans. We put lima beans in a plastic bag and hung them in the window. Everyone
got to choose 4 beans to plant in soil. I planted pink, red kidney, lima, and pinto. We drew and cut out a paper bean and labeled parts of a plant when we were done. JD

We are writing true stories in class. I’m writing about when my dog got her shots. I have also written about when my friend and I played football. I am going to publish that story.
Today our whole class wrote a story about what happened yesterday. Two girls opened the door to get their jackets. The wind blew into the school and knocked down books. WOOSH!! The class was scared. The kids in our class wanted to call their moms. It was like a tornado.

We went to the outdoor classroom. We hung on ropes and went on the Indiana Jones bridge. For the ropes I had to walk on a wire while I held onto the rope. It was hard. For the bridge there were two tires with wood in between that we had to walk through. The bridge was kind of easy. Then two people were on one rope. That was easier and mostly nobody fell.

In reading we talked about picking easy, just right, and challenging books. I tried on three different coats. One was too small, one was too big, and one was just right. When we read in class we pick just right books. Easy books have two letter words. Challenging books have humungous words. Just right books have words that we know how to read like butterfly books.
